As it begins to warm up, always nice to hike creekside.

This photo taken in June of last year, at Jones Gap State Park.

I’d highly recommend the Jones Gap Trail for an easy-to-moderate summer hike.  Shaded all the way, follows an old road bed so the grade is manageable, and most of the trail is along the creek.  About a 4 mile hike one way (put together a shuttle, or do an out-n-back).  There are historic markers along the trail, especially at the upper end if I recall correctly.   Pack your own water of course, none of the water in the SC mountains should be considered potable as-is.
